On the W11349355A washer configuration, F0E5 means the control detected an off-balance load. The OEM chart identifies uneven clothing distribution and weak suspension as checks. The code does not automatically mean the suspension rods need replacement.
Model scope: This guide covers the Whirlpool top-load configuration described in technical sheet W11349355A. AFC’s service library associates that sheet with WTW4816FW3 and WTW4850HW3. Confirm the complete model number, engineering revision, and sheet supplied with your washer. These procedures are not universal instructions for every Whirlpool or Maytag washer.
⚠️ SAFETY FIRST: Always unplug the appliance you're working on from the wall outlet, turn off the breaker, or both, to completely disable power before opening the top console or touching electrical wiring.
Stop severe movement first
Pause or cancel using the owner’s instructions if the washer is striking its cabinet, moving across the floor, or vibrating violently. Keep clear of the moving machine and wait for the basket to stop and the lid to release normally. Do not restrain it by hand, force the lid, or reach into the basket while it moves.
Disconnect power before internal inspection or panel removal. If the washer has moved enough to strain a hose or cord, or there is leakage or visible damage, correct the hazard before another test. Do not work beneath a tilted washer without proper support.
Redistribute the load
Once the lid opens safely, distribute clothing evenly around the basket. Use the owner’s guidance for load size, fabric type, and cycle selection. Avoid packing the basket tightly or retrying the same uneven arrangement. Follow the manual’s instructions for bulky items; do not assume every large item is suitable for this washer.
Observe the next permitted cycle. A single imbalance event that stops after redistribution is different from repeated imbalance across several suitable loads. Note the load contents and the stage of the cycle when the problem occurs. Wet clothing alone does not prove F0E5 or a failed suspension.
Check the installation
With the washer stopped, check its level and foot support according to the installation instructions for the actual model. A machine that rocks on its feet or sits on an unsuitable surface needs installation correction before its suspension can be assessed reliably. Do not put hands beneath an unsupported machine while adjusting it.
Look for external contact with nearby objects and evidence that the washer has shifted. Correct accessible installation issues only as the manual permits. If it continues to strike the cabinet or move violently after load and installation checks, stop using it and arrange service.
When to investigate the suspension
The F0E5 chart on page 6 recommends checking for weak suspension. Its screening observation is that the basket should not bounce up and down more than once after being pushed. Treat this as a service clue, not a stand-alone parts verdict. Do not perform a bounce check while the washer is operating, and do not use excessive force.
Repeated bouncing, recurring imbalance with appropriate loads, or a visibly displaced assembly calls for a technician to inspect the suspension and its supports using the model’s service procedure. The code does not identify an individual rod, establish a part number, or prove that every rod has failed. Do not apply grease or modify the suspension without a specific OEM instruction.
Confirm the code before buying parts
Have stored faults recorded using the matching technical sheet. A no-spin complaint may have another cause; investigate any additional code under its own procedure. See the washer won’t-spin guide if that is the main symptom. The uL imbalance guide describes a separately scoped indication; its platform-specific procedures must not be substituted automatically.
If suspension replacement is confirmed, match the parts to the complete model number and engineering revision. A general listing for Whirlpool washers does not prove fitment.
Calibration and verification after repair
W11349355A lists suspension replacement as a calibration trigger, but limits Calibration Mode to models without level selection. Follow the applicable service procedure rather than a universal reset sequence. Where required on that configuration, calibration uses an empty basket with the lid down; allow the routine to finish without interruption.
After reassembly and any required calibration, complete the prescribed automatic test and review new faults. Then check normal operation with a suitable, evenly distributed load under the owner’s instructions. An empty diagnostic test alone does not establish how the washer handles laundry. Stop if severe movement returns. Clearing stored faults is not a repair.
